Banksy, Creativity, and the Church.
I just finished one of the most fascinating documentaries I’ve ever seen. Exit Through The Gift Shop was billed as a documentary about the famous street artist Banksy, although even in Banksy’s opening line it’s clearly laid out that the film is actually about a man named Thierry Guetta.
I don’t want to say too much or give to much away, because the documentary really...

Driving by those trucker stops The cheap motels made of concrete rocks With a hole inside your chest The size of a city block And I remember the day When you said you weren’t afraid to die I don’t think your brave for it I just think your more afraid of being alive

One of the pastors and leaders I respect most is Chuck Bomar. He has a long history working with college-age ministries and somewhat recently planted a church in Oregon. He writes a blog (HERE) that has tons of great thoughts and information, mostly relating to college-age people - but it really applies to our approach to ministry in general.
Anyhoo, he wrote a blog the other day with some...

Fantastical.
I’m laying on the sofa, with Es sleeping on the other half, staring at our Christmas tree (which is perfect), writing the script for our SNL holiday skit contest for the staff Christmas party tomorrow night. Yeah, you read that right. Every couple has to do a SNL (or SNL themed) skit at the party.
I seriously can’t wait for this Christmas party. It’s going to be off the...

Dental Hell.
Es and I went to the dentist today . It was the first time for me in, ohhhh… I’d say 10 years is a safe guess. (No lectures please.)
As can be expected, my teeth are not in great shape. But they also could be/should be much worse considering the amount of time they have been hiding from that evil man with the drill and hook-thing. (That thing friggin hurts.)

It's got to be a record.
I’m basically done with my Christmas shopping. I usually wouldn’t even start for another couple of weeks! I’m really impressed with myself. Now to find a few more stocking stuffers. Any ideas?

fingers crossed.
I’m trying not to get too excited, because this would be the third time I’ve been let down - but I think that my, sweet, sweet ukulele is on it’s way to me! It’s so beautiful.

I really enjoyed following the US in the World Cup, but the lack of replay and amount of acting to pull cards is totally lame.

Haiti, not yet.
Well, It has been a crazy week in Haiti, and thus it has been a crazy week here in Des Moines. Long story short, The Gateway Church’s trip to Haiti has been postponed until after the first of the year.
Here is part of the letter that we sent out to the Haiti team members explaining why:
Late Sunday night we were made aware of the increasingly volatile situation on the ground in Haiti....
