Hipster Doofus.
I made a really intentional attempt at never ever listening to Bon Iver. First, because the only people that I knew that listened to him were ultra hipsters and I can’t keep up with that. And then second, when I found out that you don’t pronounce his name like it looks? And guess what, homie don’t play that.
[EDIT - I FOUND A HELPFUL VIDEO IF YOU’D LIKE TO PRONOUNCE...

I don’t if I’ve ever really publicly said this, but ever since I was a kid all that I wanted to do when “I grow up” is have a family and play music.
I can’t believe that’s come true. I know my boy isn’t here quite yet, but we’re literally a few weeks away from that, and I just can’t believe that my dreams have come true. How many people can...

33 Weeks, 4.2lbs
No, this is not a post about losing weight. (Although I wish I had the willpower to lose 4.2 pounds over 33 weeks.)
Today Es is 33 weeks pregnant. The boy is 4.2lbs. It’s pretty amazing. Actually, according to our specialist, it’s a miracle. She told us today that when this baby is born, she wants a picture with us so she can put it in her journal.
Crazy.
The biggest surprise...

Sunday Set List 6.5.2011
In my continued effort to try and post the upcoming Sunday’s set list for you all, here is the latest edition.
I’m always trying to find upbeat songs that aren’t cheesy or superficial, and also that work at The Gateway Church. It’s tough, and it shows. Most of our songs are slow or mid-tempo songs, and while there is always hope and joy found in the things of God,...

Thermostats and Thermometers.
In leadership there is this idea of a being a thermostat or being a thermometer. A thermometer walks into the room and just reads the temperature of room, essentially becoming that same temperature. A thermostat, however, dictates the temperature of the room.
Worship, for me, has always been a thermostat. (Speaking specifically of worship in the form of music.) If I’m feeling hopeless,...
